Bananas are one of the healthiest fruits. The curved fruit actually stimulates digestion and helps to re-energise the body. Find out why bananas are so healthy and why you should include more of these yellow beauties in your diet.
1. Energy boosters
Ripe bananas in particular have a high proportion of fructose and almost no starch. Without putting too much strain on the stomach, they rout minor hunger pangs and are an ideal source of energy for physical and mental stress.
2. Fighting muscle cramps
Apart from raspberries, bananas are the fruit with the most magnesium: 27mg per 100g to be precise. So it’s worthwhile grabbing a banana regularly as that prevents a magnesium deficit and the associated muscle cramps, which can be very unpleasant.
3. Stress buster
Who would have thought it? Bananas can help to lift our mood and reduce stress. Magnesium also plays a role here. This mineral affects the production of stress hormones, such as cortisol, and can prevent the occurrence of excess levels, which in turn helps if you are feeling very stressed and tense. 4. Potassium boost
Bananas are particularly rich in potassium: they contain almost 400mg potassium per 100g. This trace element is believed to protect the heart and regulate blood pressure.
5. Source of vitamin B6
Vitamin B6 is crucial in building, converting and integrating amino acids and is therefore very important for protein metabolism. Nervous systems and immune defence systems also benefit from this water-soluble vitamin from the vitamin B family. The formation of haemoglobin, the red blood pigment, is regulated using vitamin B. Of all fruits, bananas have a particularly high level of vitamin B6.
But there’s a reason why the banana is one of our most popular fruits: easy to pop in a bag and to snack on while you are out and about, it is an extremely light, everyday all-rounder and also a particularly healthy all-round talent.
It’s all good!
