Do you ever wonder who is responsible for the latest Dole research findings on fruit and vegetables? The Dole Nutrition Institute plays a very important role in this regard.

My name is Dr Nicholas Gillitt – Nick for short. I am head of this research facility, which is located on the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis. For the last 20 years, I have been researching the compounds that exist in fruit and vegetables and how they affect our health.

My work is therefore very exciting because the discoveries that my research team and I make can really have an impact. In addition to constantly improving product quality, we are particularly interested in the health-promoting effects of plant-based foods. We would like to know how certain substances affect diseases like diabetes or cancer and how bananas and other fruit and vegetables can promote a healthy, fulfilled and long life.

Dole research

The Dole Nutrition Institute was established in 2003 by Dole owner David H. Murdock to spread more knowledge about nutrition in the world. We want to provide our consumers with high-quality fruit and vegetables through continuous research and at the same time enhance people’s knowledge about healthy nutrition.

On a day-to-day basis, our work involves determining the different compounds in fruit and vegetables and the various links with types, ripeness stage, cultivation methods and other factors. Dole also supports scientific studies that address the effects of food on our health.

We also have access to the latest discoveries made by the eight universities on the NCRC, so we know how obesity, cardiac disease or diabetes can be prevented with healthy nutrition or how athletes can benefit from eating the right foods.

Our next research projects are already in the pipeline. So you can continue to rely on our thirst for knowledge in the future.

Best wishes, Nick
