The on-trend drink of the moment is called golden milk or turmeric latte. Never heard of it? Then you really have to give this sweet and spicy warm drink a try! We show you how you can prepare golden milk yourself quite easily.
Turmeric, with its characteristic yellow colour, is an ingredient found in every curry powder. Also known as ‘Indian saffron’, this spice is largely still under the radar in European countries. But turmeric does not need to hide itself: it has been known as a remedy in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. The phytochemical curcumin contained in turmeric is considered to be anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and is also believed to alleviate gastro-intestinal complaints by relieving gas and bloating.
Golden milk is made using almond milk, ginger and honey and has a warming and calming effect. The best time to drink is therefore in the evening before going to bed.
- 1 cup of almond milk
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon honey
- Pinch of cinnamon
- Pinch of black pepper
Warm all the ingredients in a saucepan and allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes. Pour it through a fine sieve, use a milk frother to create a foam and relish the warm drink.
Enjoy your golden milk!
