Banana citrus date bars


Longing for something sweet? We have a fruity Christmas treat for you: Our banana citrus date bars are super delicious but still healthy.

For one baking tray of banana citrus date bars you need:

  • 2 bananas
  • 120 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 115 g brown sugar
  • 55 g trans fat-free margarine, softened
  • 1 egg
  • grated orange peel (from 2 oranges)
  • ½ cup chopped almonds, toasted
  • ½ cup chopped dates
  • powdered sugar


Preheat oven to 180 °C. Spray 8-inch square baking pan with cooking spray. Puree one banana in blender or food processor container (3/4 cup). Combine flour, baking powder and nutmeg in medium bowl. Beat sugar and margarine in large bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and orange peel. Beat in flour mixture alternately with pureed banana. Stir in almonds, dates and chopped banana. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 30 minutes or until skewer inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar. Cut into bars.
