Baking your own grape bread

Bread comes in countless different varieties – with grains, seeds or olives. But how about trying grape bread for your next brunch or picnic? Bursting with vitamins, this fruity and luscious treat adds variety to the bread basket and its sweet taste is sure to impress!

Ingredients for grape bread:

  • 400 g wholemeal spelt flour
  • 100 g seedless grapes, finely chopped
  • Sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds or other grains to taste
  • 250 ml water
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1 sachet yeast

Method:

Place the wholemeal spelt flour, grains, salt, oil, water and yeast in a bowl and knead. Add the grapes and mix them in with the dough.

Leave the dough in a warm place and allow to prove for approx. 1 hour. Knead it again.

Place the grape bread dough in a greased loaf pan and bake for approx. 1 hour in a pre-heated fan oven at 200°C. Tip: A bowl of water in the oven prevents the surface of the bread from drying out.

Once it is baked, allow the grape bread to cool. Cut into slices, the grape bread tastes delicious, even on its own. Add some hearty vegetable dips for a mouthwatering contrast to the sweetness of the grapes.

Let’s bake!
